Trouva, an online marketplace for independent boutiques, has announced the appointment of ex-Uber boss Niall Wass as non-executive chair.

The appointment reflects the platform’s growth following its first international expansion in Berlin earlier this year. Now, Trouva is also adding Amsterdam, Madrid and Copenhagen to its European cities, taking the number of European partner boutiques to almost 100.

Niall Wass is a partner at Atomico, a London-based technology investment firm which has supported startups such as digital mortgage broker Habito, trucking marketplace OnTruck, property finance marketplace Lendinvest, and digital staffing service Jobandtalent.

He is also non-executive chairman of Glovo, a Spanish startup which recently closed a €115 million Series C funding round. Prior to that, Wass was senior vice-president at Uber, overseeing the company’s international business across 52 countries, and served as chief commercial officer at Betfair until its IPO.

Commenting on his appointment as chair of Trouva, Wass said: “I have been impressed not only with the rapid growth of the business, but the quality of its service and tech platform which as well as providing a great user experience, will also help boutiques to manage their business and enable international expansion. I look forward to working with the team on a strategy that will enable Trouva to fulfil its ambition to become a major player in the retail and online shopping landscape.”

The retail platform’s expansion comes after a $10m cash injection in November 2017 from BGF Ventures, Index Ventures and Octopus.
