Footwear retailer Scapino appoints new buying and merchandising director

Dutch footwear and clothing retailer Scapino has appointed Beate Toonen to the role of director of buying and merchandising. Toonen started the new position on 1 October.

Prior to joining Scapino, Toonen was the director of category management at the toy and multimedia retailer Intertoys. Before that, she held several management roles at online department store Wehkamp, lingerie retailer Hunkemöller, department store V&D and at Hema, where she started her career in 1990.

In the role of director of buying and merchandising at Scapino, Toonen will be focusing on the alignment of the product range with the renewed store formula as well as the supply chain and the commercial processes that fit Scapino’s new market positioning.

Scapino said that by appointing Toonen, the retailer is be able to continue to focus on the new formula, which is aimed at offering a wide range of footwear and clothing for every moment of the day.

The retailer currently operates 169 stores of which 15 have been converted to the new store formula. Later this month, Scapino will unveil the 170th branch in the city of Almere.

Scapino was founded in 1974 and is available via physical stores across the Netherlands and a web shop. The range consists of footwear and clothing, including fitness and outdoor, for men, women and children. Brands on offer are Adidas, Café Moda, Scapino, Van Beers, FC Barcelona, Nike and Umbro.
