Japanese casual apparel brand Uniqlo announced on Friday that it will open its first store in Hawaii at Honolulu’s Ala Moana Center, one of the US’s largest malls, in fall 2018.

The store will cover approximately 17,300 square feet spread over two floors and offer the brand’s menswear, womenswear and kids lines, all informed by the concept of LifeWear: Uniqlo’s commitment to creating quality, affordable apparel that meets customers’ everyday needs.

“Uniqlo is honored to open our new store in the Ala Moana Center, a premier shopping location, during this 150th anniversary year of the Gannenmono - the arrival of the first Japanese immigrants to Hawaii”, stated Takao Kuwahara, CEO of Uniqlo Hawaii, in a release.

“We look forward to becoming a member of the local Honolulu community and building our reputation for excellence among local residents as well as U.S. and international visitors on holiday in Hawaii.”

Before the new location opens, Uniqlo will introduce its products to the local market through a pop-up store slated to launch in the Ala Moana Center in June.

The Fast Retailing-owned brand is currently driving global expansion, especially in Europe where it opened its first store in Spain in September 2017 and plans to open its first locations in the Netherlands and Sweden in fall 2018.

The brand has also announced two new locations in Canada, slated to open this spring.

Uniqlo currently operates some 50 stores in the US, in 12 states including California, New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts.
