Columbia Sportswear buys OutDry technology

This acquisition by the outdoor brand brings a superior manufacturing of waterproof, breathable footwear and gloves. The OutDry intellectual property was bought from Italy-based Nextec S.r.l.

Under development since 1998 this technology seems to outperform products that still rely on the 25-year-old method of internal booties and bladders.

The transaction is not expected to have a material effect on the company`s 2010 operating results.

Tim Boyle, president and CEO of Columbia said, "we intend to deploy OutDry across our portfolio of outdoor brands, including Columbia and Mountain Hardwear, as well as to market OutDry to select leading brands within and beyond the outdoor industry."
