Christian Dior’s next cruise show will be in Chantilly

Christian Dior is off to the races for its next cruise. The Paris fashion house will unveil its 2019 cruise collection inside the most famous stables on the Continent in French horseracing’s capital, Chantilly.

The storied house’s next runway show will take place on Friday, May 25 in the Grandes Ecuries (or Great Stables) of the Domaine de Chantilly, located 40 kilometers northeast of Paris.

Insiders say Dior’s creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri has chosen the location to reflect the equestrian traditions of the house. Dior has long affiliation with equestrian themes, since the founder was noted for his love of English riding tweeds. Monsieur Dior also created several notable diaphanous cocktails in Chantilly lace.

The setting is a marked change from Dior’s Wild West-influenced cruise show in 2017, which Chiuri staged with enormous panache in a canyon in the hills above Los Angeles last May.

Designed by architect Jean Aubert for Louis-Henri de Bourbon, the 7th prince of Condé, the Great Stables are a masterpiece of 18th century architecture. They are located on the perimeter of Chantilly, and beside France’s most beautiful racetrack.

Dior will feel very much at home in the Chantilly stables, seeing as Aubert is also the architect of the Hôtel Biron, which houses the Rodin Museum, where the fashion house has staged many of its ready-to-wear and couture collections this decade.
